At the moment I am still using my X10 setup, with this I am used to using a stand alone timer to control timed on/offs. I have two types, one which is purely a clock timer which plugs into the mains and the second a computer programmed device (CM15) which then plugs into a spare socket and runs the internal program. If I buy LightwaveRF equipment is there a stand alone timer I can use, without having a router switched on.

The (slightly misnamed) Wi-Fi Link will do that. Once it’s been set up (for which you do need a computer connection, or a wi-fi router to allow mobile access) then you can leave it running stand-alone and it will continue to control the lights/etc via RF without anything else (routers, network, etc) being powered up.
