The new landing page seems to be broken (IE9 on Win7 64-bit). https://staging.lightwaverfcommunity.org.uk/forum/ shows content briefly, but then refreshes to a blank page with just the dark-grey header line at the top of a white page. Individual forums and topic pages work OK if I can get to them directly (well, as well as can be expected for WordPress anyway, which IMHO doesn’t really lend itself to forums in the same way as phpBB, vBulletin or IP.Board for example).

Thanks for letting me know. I am using IE9 on both 32 and 64 bit platforms at work and the site appears to load fine. It does look like it refreshes, so I will need to look into debugging this. The only odd thing is that it doesn’t load the Google fonts, but that may be a configuration setting on our corporate locked down PCs.
I will see what I can do to find out what is going on.

You are right. I’ve just clicked on the top level forum menu item to browse to https://staging.lightwaverfcommunity.org.uk/forum/. The page appeared, briefly, and then disappeared. The content is all still there if I view source, but doesn’t appear on the page.
This needs investigating!

[Edit… ah, this time there’s an edit button – but there wasn’t on the previous couple of messages I posted this morning]
[2nd edit: the ladning page seems to be working for me now, but the very top grey bar which had things like my username in the top right, and some other things has now gone away too]

You should see an edit button in the bar above your post.

I noticed a whole bunch of errors were being thrown up relating to Google +1. Working on the basis that it would be good to see the wood for the trees and no error is a good error, I disabled the plugin which implements that and it appears to have fixed the problem. Hopefully…
Would you mind testing and letting me know? I couldn’t replicate the problem with the home page, but was getting it on the forum index page https://staging.lightwaverfcommunity.org.uk/forum

Thanks for your feedback. Building a forum was a huge learning curve for me. I am currently starting to find my way around WordPress at the code level so decided to give bbPress a try. Where I think works well is the ability to pull bits out of the database and present it on other parts of the site – like the home page for example. Another nice thing is that the look and feel can be defined by the theme although perhaps this is as much a problem as a blessing because things tend to break unless the theme designer has built a theme around bbpress. The theme I’m using here (a self customized version of Mikmag) was written with bbPress and WooCommerce in mind so covered most of the bases I wanted it to.
vBulletin is commercial software isn’t it?
I’ve not heard of IP.Board before – might take a look when I get a moment.
